WENDY STERN - POEMS
Nina
Nina
How she'd grieve
As she held his cello
As if it were he
Nina
How she'd grieve
As she locked the back door
Brushed her teeth
Managed it to work
Managed it back again
Emerging from the tube
Night time air burning her cheek
There between each breath
He was there between every thought
There between each breath
He was there behind every moment
Nina
How she'd grieve
Hanging the washing on the line
Nina
How she'd grieve
Feeling it all under Kenwood skies
So angry with him for daring to die
Angry with him for making her feel this
There between each breath
He was there between every word
There between each breath
He was there behind every feeling
For some of us love returns
If we can withstand the grieving
For some of us life returns
If we can
Endure the grieving
Nina how she'd grieve.
