WENDY STERN - POEMS
Shallow waters
I live in shallow waters
On the surface
Among the lilies
Floating lightly
In the sunlight
Watching otters play
I live in shallow waters
Lost in the cross current
Skimming freely
Lying in the rushes
Watching buttercups
I live in shallow waters
Under the moonlight
Counting stars
Making up games
Listening to frogs call
And the crickets
I live in shallow waters
Because I have to
Because if I felt the depths of this
I'd never breathe again
And if I felt the depths of this
I'd bleed forever
And if we felt the depths of this
We'd never make it
Never make it
